Sand Castles

Tiny grains of sand forming towers,

Intricate structures, bulwarks of a castle.

Four pair of hands little by little

Mingled with laughter doth create

A castle drawn from imagination

Founded on the sandy shore.

Standing motionless, unmindful of the wind’s lash,

‘Ere stand dreams, hopes, aspirations;

It’s structure a symbol of happy union

Of friends, love ones, old familiar faces,

Sharing plans, plotting diagrams

Of a future that’s sure to come.

When hopes are high and hearts are merry,

Without warning, slowly, silently

From a distant shore doth waves roll

With a thunderous voice and a mighty blow,

And in one swift crash on the sandy shore

Doth wash the emblem of friendship long known.

(by: Nerissa Buizon – 30 April 1994)

The author wrote this poem when she was at her lowest point in life and the friends she thought would be there did not give a damn to what is happening in her life.

This is the point where we find out who our real friends are and the point where we also realize we can always overcome hardships in an unexpected way.
